For more than three decades, Chike N. Moronu has worked at the intersection of public service, research and thoughtful inquiry.
His professional career in Nigeria’s National Population Commission gave him a unique perspective on the relationship between people, geography, governance and national development. His writing expands that journey—bringing together fiction, poetry, research and commentary to explore the ideas that shape Africa’s past, present and future.
My Journey
Every meaningful journey begins with curiosity.
For Chike N. Moronu, that curiosity has always centred on understanding people their history, their communities, their cultures and the systems that shape their lives.
This lifelong interest led him to study Geography at the University of Nigeria before pursuing further professional training in census mapping, land information systems, geographic information systems (GIS), digital cartography and project management.
What began as an academic interest eventually became a career spanning more than thirty years in public service, where research, planning and national development became part of everyday work.
Throughout those years, another passion quietly continued to grow.
Writing.
Not simply to document facts, but to ask questions, preserve ideas and encourage thoughtful conversation.
Today, both journeys continue side by side.
Public Service
For over thirty years, Chike served with Nigeria’s National Population Commission, retiring in 2019 as a Deputy Director after a distinguished career dedicated to census planning and demographic development.
During his years of service, he participated in the planning and execution of multiple national population censuses, contributing to projects that continue to influence Nigeria’s planning processes today.
Among his responsibilities were:
• Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD)
• Census mapping and cartography
• Geographic Resource Development
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• National demographic surveys
• Census methodology
• Technical training and capacity building
He served as Assistant Enumeration Area Demarcation Manager from 2014 until retirement, contributing directly to one of the most technically demanding components of census preparation.
Following retirement, he continued supporting preparations for Nigeria’s proposed national census, including reviewing census instruments, contributing to the Census Manual and coordinating training activities.

Why I Write
Writing offers something statistics cannot.
A report may describe a nation.
A story can reveal its soul.
While years of public service deepened Chike’s understanding of population, governance and development, literature provided another way to explore questions that data alone cannot answer.
How does a society preserve wisdom?
What traditions deserve to be remembered?
How do nations balance progress with heritage?
How do stories shape identity?
These questions continue to inspire both his fiction and non-fiction writing.
Whether examining indigenous philosophy through Wisdom of the Gods, discussing national planning through census research, or reflecting on identity through poetry, every publication seeks to encourage thoughtful dialogue rather than simple answers.
